Day Tres!

5/23/12

We woke up early again today to get our day started! We got to school early to go to the cafeteria area for breakfast! Audrey and myself shared a chocolate croissant, which was delicious and we had some coffee con leche as well! After this we went to class, and I have both of mine back to back. The classes aren’t too bad because both of our teachers have been tying in Barcelona to the discussions and the differences in culture, and the experiences we have had in the city so far. So that makes class a lot more enjoyable.

After class Jessica, Tess, and myself went to get a European phone so that we can stay in contact with the other students we are in Barcelona with! It was only about 35 euro for a phone with 20 Euros of credit, and you can add more credit on to the phone whenever you need to, which is convenient.

Then we came back to our apartment and made some quick lunch and waited for the rest of the girls to get back from class so we could all go to the beach! The beach was gorgeous and the weather felt amazing! It isn’t too hot so you can actually layout and get some sun with out sweating like crazy like we do when we layout in Texas! It’s so nice. There are tons of people on the beach selling things like sodas, beer, chips, mojitos, jewelry, a massage, henna tattoos, coconut pieces, etc. And that is just some of what people are walking around selling...it is crazy! Kind of reminded me of when I was in Mexico and people on the beach walk around trying to sell you anything and everything. None of us really bought much, because it’s usually a rip off but one guy got some coconut pieces for 1 euro, which he said were pretty good!

We stayed at the beach for a good while, but then we got hungry around 5:30 or so, which is a bad time to get hungry in Barcelona. Usually around this time most places have their kitchen closed and just serve drinks. They usually open up again for dinner around 8pm, but luckily we found a place called Shoko on the beach that was serving food and had sangria! And it had beautiful views as well, so it was perfect. Plus the wait staff spoke English, which is always comforting when you are in another country that doesn’t have English as their first language. 5 of us all shared a pitcher of some pineapple & mango sangria, fried calamari, spicy fried potatoes, and Spain’s version of nachos and guacamole. The food was great and the atmosphere was perfect. One thing I noticed was that the waiter wasn’t constantly trying to bring drinks and us the bill even after all of our plates were cleared were gone. The people in Barcelona go out to eat or drink and get lost in conversation, and that is normal to sit at a restaurant for a few hours and only have a drink or two, which I love! I mean, I’m a server myself in America and we always want our tables to turn so we can make more money and more tips, but Spain isn’t like this. They are so laid back and serving is more of a profession, and the tipping style is very minimal as well, which is totally weird for me being a server myself! But we had a wonderful time all talking and getting to know each other more and learning more about each other.

After this we came back home and now we are all just enjoying each other’s company at the flat and relaxing tonight! I will update more tomorrow!
