This morning we had to be at the Girona metro station by
8:20am, so we woke up pretty early! We had to meet there and go to the Espanya
station to take the train to the Monesstrat, which was one of the most amazing
things I’ve ever seen. When we got there you had to take a cable car, which is
basically a gondola up into a huge mountain. I’m a little afraid of heights, so
this was a little scary for me, but I kept trying to tell myself that
everything would be okay and it was safe!
Once we got off the cable care we
were at the top of a mountain and the views were AMAZING. Like I never thought
I would be so high up on a mountain. And it even got better than this. From
here we walked up to what was almost like a little city! They had small shops
and a huge cafeteria to eat at! We were all starving so we all had a quick bite
to eat before we headed further up the mountain.
From here we split off into smaller groups. Some of us
decided to take the 2 hour hike, some just took the train up to the very top
(that was me)!
I thought about doing the hike but it was going to be ridiculous and you could
just take the train to the top and hike downhill, which sounded a lot better to
me! Once we got to the top we walked around for a while and enjoyed the amazing
views and everything around us. Then some of the group free climbed and rock
climbed up the mountain!
After that we hiked down the mountain for a little under an
hour. Hiking down was actually a little bit worse than hiking up because it
hurts your shins a lot! And you were literally going downhill the entire time.
But luckily the hike wasn’t too long and at the bottom there was several
tombstones of different Saints in Spain that have passed away over the years.
Which was pretty cool to see.
After that we went up into the Monastery, which
was absolutely amazing inside! Although I am not Catholic I still really
appreciated getting to see such a beautiful and famous church up in the
mountains of Spain. Just the concept of that sounds awesome in itself. We took
pictures and sat and just admired the inside for a bit and then went to get
gelato in the cafeteria area and shopped around in the gift shop!
After this we decided to go ahead and head back to our
apartment because it had been a long day and the people who decided to hike up
the mountain wouldn’t be back for another hour. So we took another scary cable
car ride to the other side and rode the train back to the metro station!
After that we relaxed for a while at the apartment and then
went to Dow Jones for a few drinks!
