Today we woke up around 8:30am to start getting ready for
our first day of school! We weren’t sure if we remembered how to get to the
metro, so we wanted to leave an hour early to make sure we found it okay.
Before school we stopped at a coffee shop and the coffees are literally TINY
here! They are really good and strong here and only about 1.50 Euros! You have
to ask for coffee with milk though or they will give you basically an espresso
shot, which I thought was interesting. After that we went by another place for
a breakfast sandwich and I had some type of sandwich with a weird meat on it,
which I think in Barcelona is called Ibérico Ham. It is the ham of the
Iberico pig, which is a dark, red, myoglobin-rich muscle tissue striated with
fat…ha-ha so not my cup of tea. I felt pretty sick the rest of the day, so
never eating that again!
Then we went to school, which didn’t last very long
today, which was exciting because we were so excited to go out and explore the
city. I’m taking international marketing and CIS, which both only have 2 tests
each and no major projects, so it seems like it is going to be a lot better
than I thought it would be! After class we went on a walk to this beautiful
park with a huge beautiful fountain in it for a picnic and a meeting with all
35 of the students! And we had bread, cheese, and more of the weird meat, which
I didn’t eat, ha-ha.
Afterwards we went to La Ramblas, which is a huge,
touristy street with tons of shops and people and places to eat! There are also
people on the street doing random performances and we saw a guy painted and
dressed up as a Greek “Barcelona” God sitting on his pedestal. Very interesting
to say the least. You have to be very careful of pick pocketers on this street
though, because they know tourists come here a lot and they look for you, so
you ALWAYS have to be aware of your surroundings! We explored the street, had
some delicious gelato, went shopping at the 4 story H&M (yes 4 stories,
crazy I know!), and hung out on the beautiful pier by the ocean!
After this adventure we took the metro home! Got on
the wrong one once of course, but eventually we found our way back home after
getting directions from a nice English man and everyone around us laughing at
the silly “Americanos” as they call us.
We got ready and went to a beautiful little Italian
restaurant called Ristorante Pizzeria after we got home for dinner. We had
glasses of wine for only 2.80 Euros and delicious pasta filled with 4 different
types of cheeses! It was amazing and so filling! We fell in love with this
place, and will definitely be back!
After this we came home, hung out together, then
crashed finally!
